Our first project is at
Mangamba Primary.
The school has 247 pupils, which is comparatively small for the region. Our initial budget is tight, so starting with a small school enables us to get the project right from the start. Mangamba benefits from an enthusiastic Head Teacher who with the help of the Academic Master will form a working partnership with Breakfast Club. The pilot project will involve parents, teachers and most importantly students. A committee of teachers will oversee the storage and security of the food and share in the responsibility for the project. Members of staff at the school have signed a contract detailing their roles and our roles in the project, so that transparency can be maintained at all times.
Parent-Teacher meetings will inform parents of the details of the project, with members of the Breakfast Club team present. These meetings will also help us discover whether parents can assist in a financial capacity, with cooking or providing food. It is crucial to involve parents so that they can witness what is happening and feel a part of the project. We will provide as many free breakfasts to students in the Mtwara region as possible, based on the funding.
