"Students can't study effectively or concentrate if they do not eat!"
- Mr Chitivi, Head of Mtawanya Primary School

"With food, attendance would be better, but there is no food at
the school because parents can't afford it!"
- Mr Felix, Head of Naliendeli Primary
The Breakfast Club, based in the Mtwara district of Southern Tanzania, is committed to combating hunger amongst school children through developing sustainable school meal programmes in local schools.

We are currently working with Mangamba Primary School providing porridge and fruit to 250 pupils. With your help we aim to work with schools across the region.

In the Mtwara region of Tanzania most children will have little or nothing to eat until the school day is over. Most will have no more than one meal a day. Hunger at schools is rife, directly reducing the performance and the attendance of children. Lack of food dramatically impairs mental and physical development.

Only with a decent diet can children hope to get a decent education. As well as increasing opportunities for individuals a decent education for this generation will have a positive long-term effect on the development of the region.
